Welcome to the first WWA Augusta Junior Windsurfing Camp!!!!!!

WHY

This will be a weekend of epic fun, an opportunity to meet up at the beginning of the season, make some friends, and get the groms frothing on windsurfing.

WHO

The event is open to everyone from little six year olds and first timers to shredding teen-agers. Augusta has something to offer for everyone.

WHAT

The main focus of the event is FUN.

With that in mind, for the more advanced kids we will focus on Freestyle and Speed. Will anyone land a Vulcan? A Shaka or how about a no handed burner? And there is no place better to learn how to throw down a planing gybe. We don’t call it the Gybatorium for nothing. Throw down the best trick and win a $100 gift voucher to Surfsail (one for under 18 boys and one for under 18 girls)

Bring a wearable GPS device and get speed coaching from our local speed sailing pros Karin Jaggi and Patrik Diethelm. Clock the fastest 2 second speed and win a $100 gift voucher to Surfsail!!!

We will break everybody into groups by skill and each group will be assigned an instructor. Hang out all day, learn some new skills and have fun. Easy!!

WHEN

The event will occur on the first weekend with wind and a conflicting kitesurfing event is not running (they have first dibs) of the following dates:

October 26th and October 27th

November 9th and 10th

November 23rd and 24th

December 7th and 8th

We will make the call as the forecast becomes reasonably reliable. Probably on the Tuesday before the event, but could be as late as Thursday.

WHERE

All windsurfing will take place at Colourpatch Beach in Augusta, WA (94 Albany Terrace, Augusta WA 6290).

For those that are not familiar with the spot, it is a short channel with a sand bank that creates butter smooth flat water even when the wind blows 35 knots. On the opposite side of the channel there is a protected lagoon with shallow water. The combination of a short reach, flat water and steady wind creates an ideal environment for everyone to progress their windsurfing skills. Although the reach is a little short, the flat water does allow for some impressive 2 second sailing speeds!!!

It is highly recommended that everyone stay at the Westbay Retreat Caravan Park at the entrance to Augusta (Westbay Retreat, 13669 Bussell Hwy, Augusta WA 6290). They will designate an area within the caravan park for us. No reservations are required. The price is $20/adult/night and $10/child/night.

EVENT SCHEDULE

Friday

Arrival

Set up camp

Find some friends and talk about how amped you are for the upcoming windsurfing season.

Saturday

Windsurfing - The wind usually comes up early in Augusta so the most likely start time will be around 10:00 am. The final schedule will be dependent on the wind forecast and tides.

5:30 pm Dinner at Westbay Retreat. We will do our best to arrange a food truck or catering. Confirmation of this will be made after we make the call to run the event.

6:00 pm Free raffle (but you have to be there to collect your prize)

Sunday

Windsurfing - repeat of Saturday

***We will also have an informal instructor training session where we can share techniques we have learned that work well with kids. It will be a good opportunity for those that are new to gain some confidence with instructing, as well as seasoned instructors to up their skills.*** Time will be determined by the wind forecast.

INSTRUCTION

The instruction for the event will be 100% volunteer. This means everyone attending that has the ability to instruct will be expected to contribute to instructing. This includes older and more experienced kids. There is plenty of time in the day for kids to give something to the next generation of groms and get in a long session themselves. Reasonable excuses for not contributing include having small children that need your undivided attention around water. With that said, volunteer and peer-to-peer instruction is great. It brings us all closer together and helps cement the bonds of the community.

REGISTRATION

Registration is $40 per child. Because we have four possible weekends the event may run, we understand that many families may not be able to commit to all four. With that in mind, we will not collect the $40 fee until the day of the event. Please register for the event if you are able to attend any of the possible dates. Early registration is appreciated as it helps with planning. Payment is only due if you attend.

IMPORTANT - upon registering you will receive an e-mail that has a link to join a WhatsApp group. You MUST join this group if you want to be included in any of the activities.
