Event update -17/02/2021:

We are set to run the comp on Sunday 21/02/2021.

The skippers briefing will be at 11:00am
First Heats will hopefully be from 12:00pm

As the forecast is for some large waves with a long swell period (heavy waves), there is a chance that we may not run some fleets, unless the swell drops in the afternoon (this is all based on the forecast and the safety of competitors).

Ultimately it will be a final call to be made on the day depending on conditions.

Fleets that may not run are:
Juniors,
Weekend Warriors,

However if you are a Weekend Warrior, and are comfortable sailing in potentially MAST AND A HALF+ waves then, you are welcome to move into the Open fleet.

Event Schedule:

Saturday 20th Feb/Sunday 21st Feb (The event will be held over a single day on either the Saturday or Sunday, whichever has the more suitable forecast)

11:00 Briefing at Surfer's Point
12:00 First possible start
18:00 Final heat last possible start
19:30 Party and prizegiving at The Common (assuming the event runs on the Saturday)

Fleets

The Fleets will be as listed below. The fleets are ranked in order of ability so if you find yourself regularly at the top of one fleet then you should try and move up to the next one, similarly if you find yourself at the bottom of one fleet then move down, the aim is to keep the competition healthy!

A few years ago we reduced the number of fleets and removed the age based fleets for these short wave events as the old guys were ripping so hard and we wanted to give more people more time on the water, which is easier with fewer fleets.

ALL WINDSURFERS WELCOME.

The scoring criteria below should help to choose which division to enter.

Youth: Must be aged 19 or under. Forwards, backloops and/ or pushloops scored. Anything above that, not scored. Aerials scored, but any other off the lip manoeuvres (wave 360, taka etc not scored). If 2 jumps - both jumps must be different to fill score sheet.

SouthXSouthWest Ladies: Self explanatory. Note, if you are a woman but would prefer to sail in one of the fleets below instead - that is allowed. Anything scored. If 2 jumps - both jumps must be different to fill score sheet.

Weekend Warrior: Forwards and above not scored. Aerials and wave maneouvres not scored. If 2 jumps - both can be the same.

Amateur: (formerly Open) Forwards, backloops and/ or pushloops scored. Anything above that, not scored. Aerials scored, but any other off the lip manoeuvres (wave 360, taka etc not scored). If 2 jumps - both jumps must be different to fill score sheet.

Open: (formerly Elite) Anything scored. If 2 jumps- both jumps must be different to fill score sheet.

Competition Format

We will aim to run a 'dingo' format (the WA version of the dingle) where the loosers from the first round compete in round 2 and the winners of round 1 advance straight to round 3. This gives everyone at least 2 heats.

In the event of limited wind and/or waves we may run expression session formats.

Prizes

Thanks to generous sponsorship from SouthxSouthWest there will be prize money for the ladies fleet as follows:

1st Place $150

2nd Place $100

3rd Place $50

Safety

The usual safety measures will be in place for this event as per previous years including two professional jet skis and sleds but the Department of Transport has not granted us exemption from wearing life jackets over 400m from the shore this year. If you sail beyond 400m of the shore the law requires you to wear a Type 2/Level 50 life jacket.
